A sincere apology to Chinese readers

Like many Westerners, I had been over many years sucked into my own takes on Japanese culture like everyone else over here, and have long used the “catgirl” trope. The difference is I tried to ingrain my trope more into the lore and history of Japan but I fell into a common trap for Westerners who are not thinking in intersectional terms.

It’s easy and almost reflexive for a lot of Americans / Westerners to reject Nazis, those rehabilitating Nazis and Nazi imagery. But what of Japan and what it did to China? Assuredly it was at least as bad, if not worse?

And that’s where I, personally kept using “empire” themes with my catgirls not realizing (though I should) that carrying over “Empire Of The Rising Sun” themes would alienate and offend Chinese readers. I had been running with a “Nekomata Empire” for years thinking it was silly and not absolutely barbaric and not something I should take that lightly.

To solve this problem I have created the “Neko Shogunate” to replace the “Empire,” they will be motivated by Japanese goals and themes before Japan turned to fascism.

But also I have added the Xianli Of China… though I haven’t formed their organization and lore they are coming.

So to the people of and descended from China, my sincerest apologies for being a goober about this. I will do better from now on.
