So there’s places in downtown Seattle that are cool to take kids to. If you don’t mind $25 in parking fees… *gags* and I didn’t for my kiddo… let me introduce you to “Artists At Play” in the park complex where MPOP, The Seattle Space Needle and the Seattle Chidlren’s Museum are.

Artists at play is a relatively small playground, that looks HUGE in the pictures but it is big fun for kids. It features two very tall, and very fast metal slides that kids can ascent to by ropes. One is a hamster style ladder in a rope tunnel. The passage is almost too tight for an adult and can hold a child during a mishap. It features extra leather “catches” to stop falls. The other method is a rope pyramid leading up to the second “house” before the slide. The web of ropes provides safety. The bottom beneath the slides is softened AstroTurf.
The slides are crazy fast! If you want to make sure you kid has a MEMORABLE trip to the park… take your kids here. They’re only small for so long.
Nearby there’s noise makers, a device that lets kids speak to each other over long distances. And a big attraction, the SEATTLE MONORAIL! At $4 a ticket, it’s fun for kids who want the the thrill of a first train ride.
Bring extra time, because in this park there’s extra things to see!
The Seattle Children’s Museum is a one floor museum inside of what once was part of the World’s Expo in Seattle. Tickets are $16 for Washington residents. It was closed when we came, but the food court above it offers a top down glance inside. The museum also shares spaces with local teen centers. Seems like a good place to take kids. CLOSED ON TUESDAYS.
About the Museum Of Pop Culture: At the time of this writing it’s about $27 for general admission and that’s always subject to change. Seattle attractions are like this. Buy in advance. We haven’t yet gone ourselves so we don’t have a whole review. We did walk into the lobby because we were at the park. It seems like a nice museum, very well kept.
The Seattle Space Needle – Oh good golly that’s expensive. $49 a person. But it’s a super old attraction that needs a lot of maintenance. Who knows if we’ll ever go.
The Seattle Aquarium is not part of this complex but it is nearby. Like the Space Needle it is $50 a person, but much more of a value than simply riding up an elevator to a tall building.
Directly next to the Aquarium is the Seattle Great Wheel that’s $23 for adults. I’ve ridden this many times, great fun. Totally enclosed, very safe.
